Austria with the boys

Wow…. I just went through the skateon Posts and found this unpublished gem. Some memories from my Iphone to a very nice weekend with my friends, i feel like not publishing it would be a waste – eventhough it makes me miss summer even more.. I really can’t wait to travel to the mountains again.

So here we go…

The trip to Austria came pretty unexpected – i had my weekend already planned with a big barbecue with friends in my yard, a visit to the pogo/longboardshop guys and some chilled skate sessions. When I called Basti (Hertler) to ask if he wanted to join me for some skate sessions he told me about the Austria trip. My old plans were goneright away, i felt really bad to call my friends and tell them that my bbq party was canceled but going to the real mountains with a sick crew so close to the season is something I can’t deny. Sometimes you just got to make unpopular decisions if you want to get the sweet shit.

We arrived at the meeting point in the middle of the night. I was pretty happy that i could sleep inside "Boja" together with Andi and Basti. We slept pretty good but short after a quikck safety meeting.

Unfortunately there was still a lot of snow on top of the mountain. It's still an amazing view and I'm really scared of the moment when i have to race down this hill!

Of course we still found some dry spots to skate. It is just too beatiful to be real out there. Here Andi and I are enjoying a sweet corner of another premium BMS hill. Shot by Felix on Hertlers cam.

The next day was full of driving and hill scouting. Our friends from Graz left and we headed southwards. To skate more awesome hills. Andi and me in full tuck mode - picture by Hertler

This is Andi. He rides for Root, Longboardshop.eu, Team Adaequat and Venom. And he is probably one of the best guys to take on a skate trip i know - he is always in a good mood and spreads it among everyone in the car. Thank you Andi!!! Picture by Hertler

After many runs we decided to head back towards Germany. On the way we stopped in Salzburg to meet our friend Max Stamler. He is a super rad guy and part of the skate scene since many years. He is also involved with the construction of the Salzburg skatepark, "The Cage", which is definately the coolest park i have ever skated in whole Europe! After a session in the local park Max invited us over for a barbecue in his house.. It was a rad day but on the way back i fell asleep within a few minutes. Thanks again to Andi for driving us home through the night!

Just check this super rad pumptrack. It's not in Austria but really close to the Steezhaus in Suttgart. We had a little session there before i drove back to Mainz... It was a lot of fun =)

What a great trip. Honestly stuff like that is what keeps me going, if i had the chance to travel like this for the rest of my life i would definately go for it.

Thanks to my supporters for making it possible!!

dominik & alex field trip

at this time of the year, all the leaves and vineyards turn golden in the beatiful valley of the river rhine, north of mainz. dominik and michi of the olson&hekmati crew and me cought a sunny day, took the van and some friends and went out to find some new spots.
it turned out that the first hill we found on google maps had almost no incline so we kept on driving. the next hill we found had some nice hairpins and an acceptale steepness but was kind of narrow and had really sketchy pavement. we tried to film two runs with our budget-gopro, then a kind, local craftsman sent us to another hill which he said might be suitable for us.
we were suprised when we found a freshly paved, two-lane road which seemed quite steep and had some (almost flat) hairpins. the backside looked promising too but we were low on time so we just skated a couple runs. one of the fast right sweepers is actually pretty fun!
next time we will check out the backside and some more hills.. i tried to make an edit with the poor footage we got but i think you can kind of guess how the hills felt..
